A wee bit of language sexism arrived in my email box from my "Dictionary.com Word A Day" subscription. Simply identifying a woman as virago, without any more supporting description would be very confusing. I bet there is no ONE corresponding word to cover both these qualities in a man.

virago \vuh-RAH-go; vuh-RAY-go\, noun:
1. A woman of extraordinary stature, strength, and courage.
2. A woman regarded as loud, scolding, ill-tempered, quarrelsome, or overbearing.
