1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
Eggnog if I make it myself, the store bought stuff is just too sweet and spicy. Otherwise, I like hot coco.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
My mom always wrapped Santa's gifts in white tissue paper and they were under the tree.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white
Lights, Lights and lots of lights. White are okay but I'm really into colored and moving lights.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Yes, I've had this plastic one for years and it goes over the entrance. Very few folks have ever looked up and noticed it though.

5. When do you put your decorations up?
This year we started the week before Halloween. Yep, that is Halloween I said. It takes me that long to get everything up. And since I put up so much I want to be able to enjoy it for awhile.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Sauteed spinach in oil and garlic, I don't actually make it for xmas cause not many in the family eat it, but I will make it for myself at other times.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
The xmas my parents and my one sister, Nancy, came out to California to spend it with Uncle Ervin and Aunt Marge in Monterrey. I was around 11 yrs old and we took the train out from Illinois. I marveled at the lack of snow, oranges growing in the back yard and the giant xmas tree made out of fishing nets with plastic fish for decorations that was down near some wharf.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I was in class one Dec. day and we had a new student transferring in - she was from Italy. As a way to get to know her, the teacher asked questions about her xmas traditions. When she talked about getting xmas presents on xmas eve from Santa Claus, I knew there had to be a problem. I remember staring at the globe in class. I remember my mother telling me it took her mother 2 weeks on a ship to travel just from Italy to New York City. I knew New York City was very, very far away from where we lived in Illinois. It was this sudden realization that the world was just too big for Santa Claus to really travel it all in one night that made me realize it was all just one big lie. Being the logical child I was, I went with the simple explanation, gifts appeared + no Santa = Mom did it! I never considered the magical explanations or stopping time thing. I went straight from believing to not believing. Of course, I didn't let on to my mom for another 2 years - no use ruining a good thing or disappointing my mom.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Family tradition was to get together with extended family on xmas eve and exchange gifts. Xmas day was for Santa and immediate family gifts.

10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
Mom put out chocolate chips usually. That's what my older sister loved to bake (and eat) so she would make them.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Love the look, hate the reality

12. Can you ice skate?
Just barely, and maybe not at all now. It's been 30 years at least since I did so.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Easy bake oven from Santa. Chatty Cathy doll from my Uncle Ervin. I broke the doll in about 2 hours trying to figure out how it spoke. I still loved it though because he was one of my favorite relatives.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
I love the decorations, I love the gift giving and I love having people over. So pretty much everything.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert
Not a real big dessert person, but I use to love some of the jello molds my mom and/or aunt would make at the holidays.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
When I was young I use to love going caroling. Now this is really funny cause of the 4 or 5 of us that would do this every year only 1 of us could sing. The rest of us couldn't carry a tune "in a hand-basket" as my mother said. Yet, she would let us "rehearse" for hours at our house in preparation. And she always went walking with us, waiting in the cold while we were asked inside to sing a song or two. One year it snowed the entire time we were out. When we got home my mom made hot coco for everyone.
Now, the holiday tradition would include giving the open house party. We use to always go to see a movie on xmas eve, but we haven't done that one the last few years cause I'm usually busy cooking for the next day. Which I also love, having [livejournal.com profile] stonebender's family over for dinner.

17. What tops your tree?
A star

18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
Giving is more fun, but that's not say I don't enjoy getting gifts.

19. What is your favorite Holiday Song?
Winter Wonderland by Annie Lenox is one of my favorites, but then I also love the Chipmunks Christmas Song.

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Yuck

21. What is your favorite holiday movie?
It's a Wonderful Life ties with White Christmas. I just love the singing and dancing in White Christmas.
