Got up at 7 am so I could continue decorating. I managed to get some more lights up outside but couldn't do the fence because it started raining. Did a few more things inside and now I'm taking a break.

Dinner came out okay yesterday. I think I might have to give up on making a whole turkey. I've tried brining, I've tried breast side down, I've tried high temp and then low temp and probably a few other tips I've read or heard of and it still comes out dry. I've tried cheap turkeys and I've tried the expensive free-range. Various levels of dry, but always dry. The only thing I really look forward to is making turkey soup. One year we were at [livejournal.com profile] stonebender family for a holiday meal and they were going to throw the carcass out. Oh no, they didn't - that "thing of beauty" came home with us.

Everything else came out pretty good. In fact, [livejournal.com profile] dbubley said the pumpkin pie was the best she every tasted. Neither of us likes cloves all that much so I didn't add any, I'm sure there was some in the canned pumpkin. I added the evaporated lactose-free milk, vanilla, powdered ginger, eggs and brown sugar. I didn't follow any one recipe, just picked a few ingredients from various recipes I googled.

Have you ever tried putting the turkey in one of those plastic bake-in turkey bags? I've used them for years and I think the turkey comes out pretty moist. (If you like a crunchy skin, you open the bag for the last 20 minutes or so.)

No, that's one way I haven't tried. Thanks, maybe I'll try that next year or next time I get the urge for turkey.
