And the very old Studio One building, where I spent 18 years, is finally being retrofitted for earthquake safety and general upgrading. This major work is financed by a city measure (DD) that passed a few years ago, but the 10.5 million does not cover any furniture or new equipment. Friends of Studio One is fund raising to help us out. I don't know if I'll make it, but if you want to support a community based arts program, eat some good food, and swim a little, consider stopping by. Or you can always just send a check! Friends of Studio One invite you to an old-fashioned neighborhood style pool party at Temescal Pool. Sunday August 27, 2006, 3:30-6:00.
There'll be swimming of course, and ping pong, croquet...and lots of art activities by Studio One staff for the kids! Fresh and seasonal vegetarian faire will be dished up by the very talented Garden Gourmet Chef Deb Janes.

Check out the progress of the restoration work proceeding these next several months on Oakland's 1894, now officially designated National Historic Landmark Studio One Art Center.

$20.-$40. Tax-deductible donation.
