Sing Along
Aug. 23rd, 2007 08:26 pmDo you have a song that you HAVE to sing along with whenever and wherever you hear it? I do. Don McLean's "American Pie". If I'm alone, I will sing it at the top of my lungs, otherwise, I try to be considerate and not torture the ears of all creatures within hearing range. There is just something about that song that MAKES me sing. Maybe because I was 15 when it was popular. Maybe because it captures a moment in time and place so well, so vividly. Whatever the reason, it compels me, as no other song does, to sing along.
I must like to sing...
Date: 2007-08-24 07:42 am (UTC)"Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite" and "Lovely Rita" by the Beatles: I am pretty much compelled to sing along to anything from "Sgt. Peppers'" largely because it is ingrained in my head--when I was eight years old I studied the back of the album cover and memorized all the damn lyrics just so I could sing along. "Mr. Kite" and "Lovely Rita" compel me to sing even more than the others, though, largely because I so vividly remember my dad singing them to me.
"Hey Bulldog" by The Beatles: I was long obsessed with this song and was beyond thrilled that the sequence with the song was put in the re-release of "Yellow Submarine". Did I mention I had a "Yellow Submarine" cake for my ninth birthday? In 1983, no less.
"It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" by REM: Perhaps it is the mere challenge and absudity of this one that makes me sing.
I am sure there are more, but that is all I can think of off the top of my head. "Werewolves" is hands down the top of the list. I even howl when I sing it.
