She is doing much better.  So far they have not found a fistula.  It seems to be a very bad UTI and they are flushing her bladder and giving IV antibiotics.  I'm going to try to talk to the doctor tomorrow, I missed his call today.  She sounds like herself now.  I guess the entire time in the ER they were giving her a fair amount of morphene because she kept falling asleep even when sitting up.  Several doctors asked me if she usually dozed off like this and I said sometimes in front of her computer, but not when she's in the middle of a conversation.

Stay tuned . . .

Pippin

Finally some good news - our Pippin puppy has been declared officially free & clear of ring worm.  Visually she is looking great - no new spots and the hair growing back in the old areas, so we thought she was cured, but we had to wait for the 2nd test to come back negative and it did!!  Now we can start puppy class next week.

On the slightly down side, she has been limping for a few days.  It doesn't slow her down and I get no pain responses with manipulating any of the tissues or joints on the leg.  It seems to be worst when she first gets up after laying down for several hours.  We have an appointment with the vet on Saturday unless it goes away first.  She might just have sprained something, the way she runs around it wouldn't surprise me.  The other night she was following me around and I had an arm full of clean clothes.  As I went into the bedroom to put them away I couldn't turn on the light.  She decided to jump on the bed, but in her rush she miscalculated and landed against my butt and bounced off.  I heard her fall to the floor and turned to look at her.  Just like in a cartoon, she shook her head a little and then looked up at me and I swear if there was a word balloon above her it would have said "Did you get the name of the truck that me hit me?"  She is a constant source of giggles and guffaws around here.

Well, she didn't come home.  In fact she was in the ER from approx. 1:30 AM to 6 PM today.  Most of that time was waiting for a bed in the semi-critical care unit (I forget the actual name.)  On two hours sleep, I called in sick and went to the hospital, where I sat with her from 10 am until 5 pm.  They did not find a cellulitis area and her white blood cell, while elevated is not real high.  The problem is the blood in her urine.  There is alot.  One of her other symptoms has been passing gas from her bladder.  We had an appointment in a few weeks with her regular doctor to talk about this.  One possibility is fistula in the bladder wall that has opened and is leaking urine into her blood and some blood in her bladder.  Her blood has been high in acid and this would explain it.  Her blood pressure was fairly high and there is fluid in her lungs.  At this point, they want to stabilize all her vitals and blood work as much as possible.  To check on the fistula they need a CT scan (I think that's the one - I'm a little fuzzy right now) and there is not a machine big enough for her at this hospital.  They would need to send her to Richmond Kaiser, which isn't too far away.  Unfortunately, if there is an opening they will need to operate to close it.  This all scares the shit out of me and if I wasn't so sleep deprived right now I'd be doing a whole lot more wringing of hands.  As it is, all I can do is feed the dog, stonebender and myself and then go to bed.

What's better than one medical problem at night - that's right two.  We're having us a twofer night.  After dbubley called from the ER and said to stay home tonight because they were admitting her, stonebender and I headed to bed.  Anyone want to guess what I found on his hip?  You win (and you know us too well) if you answered a large red and hot patch of skin.  Yep, cellulitis hits us twice in one night.  We had a paper prescription for his antibiotic, so off I go to the 24 hour Walgreen's drive-through pharmacy.   Even though no one was in line, it took an hour to fill it because they close for a 30 minute break about 10 minutes after I pulled up.  I drove around because I hate sitting in an almost empty parking lot at 3 am, I feel like a target.  Now I'm home, I need to take a few of my meds and try to get some sleep.  I think I'll sleep in until 6:15 am.  I might get 2 hours of sleep - oh boy, tomorrow/today's going to be fun.

Edit/Update: Doctors say it's a UTI, gave her iv antibiotics and want to send her home.  I've off to pick her up now.

And they took [livejournal.com profile] dbubley away to the ER.  It is probably cellulitus again, but this time she was so cold, so shaky and feeling so sick I wasn't sure she could drive the wheelchair well enough to get in the van.  Her last bout was in Oct., she was in the hospital and post care facility for a total of 3 weeks.   I'm mad at the germs, I'm frustrated and I'm scared - mostly scared.  [livejournal.com profile] stonebender and I will be off to the hospital in a little bit.  I need to get some stuff together and take Pippin outside before I put her in the crate.
As my mom would say "the problems of the living."

Edited Update: She just called and told me to stay home and come in the morning.  She's on a gurney, so her back is killing her, but they are admitting her (not that either of us had any reason to doubt they would) and I'll go in the morning.  Now if I can get to sleep.

For women my age, I'm below average, but I'm slightly above average for women in California. I certainly DID count oral sex - come on, I'm bisexual and that would leave out sex with women and I refuse to do that - [sticking my tongue out] so there!

Pippin and a few of her toys this morning.
She is growing so fast, at 5 months she is 45 lbs!
And her puppy bark is taking on a deeper and more adult tone.
The orange dog shaped toy on the right is a squeaky toy.
She loves to chew it, especially when we are trying to watch tv.

Meds

I'm out of a drug called copaxone, an subQ shot I take every night for my MS.  I thought I had one more left, so I didn't stop at the pharmacy tonight.  This is only the 3rd time since April 2000 that I will miss a dose.  I ran out one other time and I just spaced on it another time.  I hate the shot, it's a fairly large needle and it almost always hurts.  I'm sure missing one shot will not be catastrophic, but I know I will be a little hyper vigilant looking for any sign of an impending MS attack for the next few days.

On other fun (not) health news, I went to the dentist today for a regular cleaning.  I've had some pain in the last few weeks and when my dentist took a look, she said I probably have a little crack in an old filling.  So tomorrow I go in to have it removed, she will put a temp in and fit me for a cap.  My insurance is on the calendar year; she is squeezing me in tomorrow so it will go against 2008 and save the $$ for future needs in 2009.  She's a very good doctor with a very good office staff.  Even with insurance my % will be about $350.

On the actual good news health front - Pippin went to the vet today.  He took a scrapping for the 2nd ring worm test, but he thinks she looks great and suspects it will come back negative as the first one did.  She'll start her puppy class on Jan. 13th - finally!

A scene from The Ghost and Mr. Chicken scares you.  I think it's Don Knotts jumpiness that's making me jumpy.
loracs: (xmas lights on star)

I don't remember doing it, but I think I twisted my ankle.  About 8 pm (xmas eve) I couldn't walk on it anymore, took an ibuprofen and went to bed to elevate my leg.  Of course this meant I fell asleep and didn't wake up until about midnight.  It's feeling a little better, but I'm still limping and it's swollen.

Everything that I planned to do last night, I still have to do.  It's almost 3:30 am and I just finished setting the table and mixing the onion dip.  I don't know if I'll get much more done before I go to bed.  I'll just have to squeeze it all in tomorrow.  I might try to label/post-it all the bowls now, it really makes putting stuff out so much faster.  Maybe I'll just update my spreadsheet (yes, I do a spreadsheet with items, type of plate/bowl needed and approx. time to deal with it) and go to bed.

Menu:
Appetizers: olives, chedder cheese ball, onion dip, bacon/green onion dip, clam dip, soppresta salami, crackers, salsa, veggie tray, potato chips, tortilla chips (who needs dinner now?)
Dinner: lasagna, salad, corn, garlic bread, rolls.  stonebender's family is bringing green beans with bacon, potatoes and ham
Dessert: red velvet cake, pie (tracytreefrog, I was sleeping when you called, if you have or want to get a pie that would be great, but don't sweat it if you don't) and I think C is bringing some cookies.

night ya'll

loracs: (Santa Yoda)
Three days before Christmas and I'm just not feeling it.  I didn't feel like decorating, although I did some.  I wasn't excited about giftmas shopping, but we did our mall-day-o'shopping last week.  I didn't have my annual open house.  I'd been throwing them since 1992 and the only other time I didn't have it was in 1999 because we had just moved on Thanksgiving weekend.  Most years we had 40 to 60 people stop by.  Is it because I'm getting old or is it a confluence of depressing crap this year?

Depressing Crap List:

Our dog Gilly died in Sept. and I really miss her.

The lay-offs in the city have placed me in a job I hate.  Every work day since Nov. 17th  I wake up dreading going to work.

Stacy, Guy's long time attendant, quit because she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about three weeks ago and it's very advanced.  She helped me decorate each year.  Last year she gave me a Santa who "Ho Ho Ho'd" and then bent over, pulled down his pants and farted.

The economy is scary and I think it's going to get worst.

I'm sure there's more, but these are the big ones.

Tonight I went in search of my xmas spirit.  I went out to mail the xmas cards.  I grabbed a hot coco, turned the radio to the all xmas music station, turned off the heater and drove around looking at xmas lights.  I parked across from a tree lot and watched families pick out trees.  Nothing.  I parked in front of the house with moving dioramas.  One is Santa's workshop with the elves pounding away at toys.  Another is 3 snowmen who rotate around a xmas tree.  As each one comes to the front, he stops, turns and "shivers".  They all carry signs with greetings on them.  Tonight I imagined they were strikers on a picket line.  There are several 2-D trains made of lights that blink on and off to make it look like the wheels are turning and smoke coming out of the smoke stack.  I thought of pollution.

I decided this wasn't working and came home before I saw one more set of framed deers with white lights and moving heads and thought of Sarah Palin.  Or before I heard Wham's Last Christmas on the radio again.

If anyone has seen my xmas spirit or has any to share, please let me know.

Good news, Pippin received her first negative test for ring worm.  We go in on Monday, Dec. 29th to take another sample.  If this one comes back negative, we can declare this dog CLEAN!  This makes me very happy because I can take her to puppy class in January.  And once Misha's ring worm (which she got from Pippin) is cleared up, they can have doggy dates.

What might have been very bad (sparks in dbubley's breaker box) seems to be okay for now.  PG&E came out, the nice man moved something around and tighten some screws.  We still contacted an electrician because we know there's some other issues.  I am very happy to report no fire and power back on.

Finally, after more than two months, I have hooked up digital cable box in the front room.

I am now official done with this Happy Meme - and that makes me happy!
loracs: (Default)

Pippin makes me happy (she also makes me mad & frustrated, but that is information for a future meme.)  Right now she is playing with her toys.  She is going back and forth between the squeaky toy (we had to turn the tv up to hear it over her noise making) and her ropes.  She shakes them and throws them up over her back.  When she gets tired of those, she gnaws on a big bone.  Watching her stretch out on the bed inviting me to scratch her so soft belly.  Watching her, watching me with those big question-filled eyes.

It rained on the drive in to work this morning.  Even when I have to drive, I love the rain and it makes me happy.

Shopping, aka spending money.  We did our "shop till we drop or all xmas presents are purchased" at a mall today.  We've been doing this about 10 years now.  We got to the mall a little late, about 1:00 pm,  we left about 7 pm.  All that's left to purchase are a few books.  We prefer to purchase books from local independent bookstores, but even if we did want to buy them in the mall, we couldn't.  There was not ONE bookstore in the mall.  And this is now pretty much the case around here.
Happy to spend the day spending money!

Really good and really, really spicy (lips on fire) Thai Basil dish from the food court in the mall - yes, in a mall.  And I didn't even ask for it extra spicy.  This makes me happy.  Lips on fire makes me happy.

Fat Woman's swim, Making Waves.  It has been around for over 25 years, first in Richmond and then Albany.  Today the pool is closing for long term repairs - 2 or more years.  I've made many friends there, including dbubley.  We first flirted over matzo ball soup at lunch after a swim.  I went almost every week for about 10 years.  With the purchase of our house 8 years ago, I rarely get there now-a-days.  Today I am going and that makes me happy.

loracs: (huh?)
I've seen It's a Wonderful Life a bazillion times and I never saw the squirrel climb up Uncle Billy's arm.  It happens when he's crying because he just misplaced/lost a big deposit of money.  Evil Mr. Potter has the money.

Hey, I hope I'm not spoiling this movie for anyone.  Is there anyone out there in my corner of LJ land who has not seen this movie at least once?
loracs: (Default)
Her normal little puppy bark is starting to deepen.  Just now she was in the kitchen barking like a mad dog.  I peeked around the corner and she was standing between us and the box with the new vacuum cleaner.  Even though it is still all boxed up, something must tell her it contains the mortal enemy of all dogs everywhere.  Maybe it's a genetic memory thing.  ;-)
loracs: (Default)
1.  It's a Wonderful Life is on TV and they are almost to the dance sequence where George and Mary think everyone is watching them because they are doing so well.  Instead the floor is opening up over the swimming pool and they dance back and forth almost falling in a few times before they finally do.  I love watching Mary laugh as George continues to dance with her in the pool.  It's only a few seconds long, but it's one of my favorite moments in one of my favorite movies.

2.  Decorating a little bit more, it might not be up to my usual amount.  The lights on the fire place makes me happy.

3.  The weather is changing, it is supposed to rain for the next few days and I can smell it coming.
