But today is better. I have a urinary tract infection. More waves of pain than I've experienced in a long time.

Yesterday I somehow managed to get to the doctor and not pass out through the waiting process. I did let them know I was feeling faint which got me into a room faster. Urine sample. More time waiting. PA finally comes in and asks bunch of questions, pushes on my abdomen and gives me an antibiotic prescription. The ride that felt like forever to the drugstore (with the AC on high) and then home.

That's about the last clear thought I had until this morning. Just ask [livejournal.com profile] stonebender how fun last night was! I wasn't able to sit up for more than a few minutes. Nothing I ate yesterday stayed where it was. I just had a little broth with noodles, my first food in over 24 hours. I'm off to bed again with the hope that everything stays put.

And I'm suppose to drink lots of water. I'm trying.

It was a wonderful few days off from work attending the NAAFA convention. Very little sleep. There were lots of wonderful workshops, met new friends, spent time with old friends, put some faces to names on email lists, danced, danced, danced and laughed - A LOT.

That's the quick version. I'll try to put together a more detailed con experience later.

I'm not always glad about this "temporary" work location but today I will sing the praises of it because of the little organic grocery around the corner. I was starving but a quick walk around the block brought me a wonderful lunch which included fresh olive bread (Grace Baking with Moroccan olives), a container of pitted kalamata olives and some fresh mozzarella balls. One of my all time favorite "I didn't cook it, I was just the sui chef!" meals.

Even though I have tons of work to do in the next few hours, I'm still in a good mood cause when I leave, I'm on vacation until next Monday. Off to the NAAFA convention in San Mateo - such an exotic location don'tcha think!.

P.S. In case ya don't know - it's only about 45 minutes from my house but we're getting a room for 3 of the nights so it is a "get away".

but can you take the catholic out of the girl?

And is this a good thing or bad thing?
A very, very, very rambling answer. )

It's a cloudy and grey morning - just the way I like it.

And if it wasn't that I'm taking [livejournal.com profile] dbubley to the doctor and that I have to go to work, this might even be a good day. I woke up with a feeling of accomplishment. A few days ago we sold an extra car we needed to get rid of and last night we made arraignments to have the fence moved this weekend. We will finally be able to see and walk on the new "back forty". Now if [livejournal.com profile] dbubley would just feel better. She's had a cold for about 2 weeks. We thought is was the same one I and [livejournal.com profile] stonebender had but it seems to be much more in her lungs, so off to Kaiser we go.

I took the oath of office yesterday and today my supplies came. I am a notary. It's weird with the timing, if I do get laid off maybe I can be a traveling notary. And it's something to put on my resume too, I guess.

Second, they finally closed on the other property so we can now take possession of the new parcel. I have a bunch of calls to do around house stuff and now finding the fence person so we can actually see and walk on our new property has just popped to the top of the list. I can't wait to see the first time Gilly gets to explore the new area.

I don't want to be unemployed but there is this little part of me that would be happy to get out of the mess that my job feels like right now. And then there's this other part of me that wonders what it would be like to not work. I have had a job since I was 17 years old (I'm 48 now, you do the math.) The only breaks were the 3 years I was in college, then I only worked when I came home on long weekends, holidays and the summer. I've never been off for more than 3 weeks and that only happened twice when I took vacation time to drive cross country. So what would it feel like to have no work commitments. No deadlines. No co-workers. No office. And of course NO paycheck. A mixed bag, eh?

I'm on day 4 of a cold. Feeling all cotton-headed. [livejournal.com profile] serenejournal brought over some wonderful home-made chicken soup. The legend of chicken soup curing a cold just might be true - I'm feeling a little better, enough to go finally take a shower and get on with my day. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] serenejournal

Fireworks

I love fireworks. The last few years we have tried several different places and have either not had a good view or had to deal with truly awful traffic (over 1 hour to get out of a 3 deck parking lot.) Tonight [livejournal.com profile] dbubley and I decided to just hang out in our driveway and watch the local backyard pyrotechnics. [livejournal.com profile] stonebender preferred to stay warm and at his computer. And they were really, really fun. Some were loud, some were zigzaggy and some exploded over our head with a little of the debris falling in our yard. And they lasted several hours. We had at least 3 locations a few blocks over that put lots of money and time into setting these things off.

The only part I don't like about these illegal fireworks is knowing that some people will end up in the ER with injuries. And I also wonder about folks who have been in war situations and how they feel when their neighborhood is alight in noise and the cloud from the explosives. They didn't choose to go to a fireworks display - it all just descends on their home. And they are very, very loud. Poor Gilly alternated between running around the house barking and velcroing herself to the nearest human.

Even so I still love fireworks.

When I checked with the store where I lost my wallet they did not have anything then but said to check back just in case. So I called about 5 hours later and it had been turned in! Yeah! This means I have Gilly's picture back and I don't have to do the DMV visit today. I got everything back but the $40 cash. They missed the lucky $2 bill I had folded and stashed in behind my medical card. Of course I have to wait now for the replaced atm card and a couple of credit cards but otherwise it turned out pretty good. I also carry a blank check that I paid $25 to put a stop payment on. So all in all I'm out $65 and a couple of hours. Could have been worst.
Now to get back to my regular life - whatever that it!

Weird but good side effect: [livejournal.com profile] dbubley and I decided to just completely cancel 2 or 3 cards that we don't really use. So if this happens again I'll have less cards to worry about - not to mention less credit to be tempted by.

My back and knees were hurting this morning so [livejournal.com profile] dbubley and I decided not to go to the SF Pride Parade today. Instead we had a lovely lunch at a noddle house and then shopped for dinner. I've never been to a Pac'N'Save before and somehow in the "fun" of packing my own groceries and getting to the van, my wallet fell out of my fanny pack. Didn't figure this out until I got home and heard a pill bottle fall out and then I realized I had not zipped it all the way closed. When I looked for my wallet it was gone - we drove right back to the store but at least 20 - 30 minutes had passed and it was not on the ground Checked with the store and it had not been turned in. So I've spent the last hour calling every card/id I believe was in it to cancel them. I have an appointment at the DMV tomorrow to replace my DL.

The only thing I will not be able to replace it an old Next credit card that had Gilly's picture on it. Several years ago they were offering credit cards on line with a picture of your choice. [livejournal.com profile] dbubley ordered one with Gilly's pic on it. Within 6 months Next went under and sold their contracts to another company that dropped all but 10% of these new accounts. We were dropped but I loved to carry the card anyway to show off our little girl. This was the photo that had been posted on-line at the Dobie Rescue site, so it was the first look we ever had of her.
Funny, when my mother lost her wallet many years ago (maybe 30 years) she lamented most about missing all the school pictures she carried of her daughters. I don't believe she even had a credit card and she didn't drive. She rarely needed to show any kind of id - after all the bank and her doctor knew her and she paid cash for everything else.

Now, here I sit - feeling naked. No atm card, no DL, no medical card, no credit card. I feel like I don't exist. And I've lost the Gilly picture. My mom would have understood about the picture.

Bumper Nuts Anyone?
I especially like the chrome ones. I want to talk to the man (I'm assuming it's a man) who first thought these up. I don't want to talk to him long, mind you, but just a short WTF question. Is this one of the signs of the apocalypse?

Mustard DOES NOT belong on a BLT - even when the B is turkey bacon. It's just not right. No restaurant should just spring that on you esp. in take out! That's all. Carry on.

Movie Meme
via [livejournal.com profile] firecat

These are the official rules:

1. Take this list and post it into your own LJ, and mark the movies you've seen (in bold).

2. Add five more movies to the end of the list.

3. Count how many you have seen. If you've seen more than 70 movies, you are a Movie Whore. Post the score of how many movies you've seen in the subject line.

4. Use a LJ-cut since you've got at least one LJ-friend who doesn't really want to see an ungodly number of movies snaking its way down the computer monitor (now at 336).

5. (optional) Question your friend's taste in movies.

I have to fast for a blood test in the morning and I just finished preparing some roasted red peppers. They smell soooo good and I am hungry. And it's 3:30 am and I have to get up around 6:30 am. I don't know why I'm still up. I don't know why I do this to myself. Yawn

I can not believe this was on The Tonight Show. Watch Leno at the end, I think he was in shock hearing this very, very anti-Bush song. I think most of the audience was in shock also. But maybe the tide is turning if someone like this can get Leno. Or else someone on his staff is getting reamed (or fired) for booking him.

This evening we had a friend over for dinner and she brought her dobie girl, Misha, with her. Gilly had a GREAT time running around like the crazy girl she is esp. when we went outside and played with the laser lights. Misha enjoys it but Gilly is a fanatic about chasing it. [livejournal.com profile] dbubley, Misha's mom and I all had a laser pen and we drove them into exhaustion.

Dinner was simple but good. A steak w/sauteed mushrooms, salad, boiled potatoes (purple, white and red), oven roasted asparagus, onion & assiago focaccia and red velvet cake for dessert.

Oh yeah, and the offer we made on the lot behind us was accepted! We really expected her to come back with a counter offer since we think we low balled it but we got it on first bid. Our agent came over today and we signed one final addendum. We are pretty happy about it all. It won't close until they sell the rest of the property. The lots have separate parcels numbers but both are covered under one mortgage and the mortgage company will not let her sell only a part of it. She would have to refi to do that which doesn't make sense because the rest of the property should sell soon. And we are in no particular hurry to have the space. It will happen when it happens. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy - more dobie girl run space.
